Florida Legislature Passes SB 2176

In response to the inquiries from the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, we are very happy to report that USA SCN's Part A deductible waiver program scored a major victory for our Medigap carrier clients with policyholders in Florida. On Friday, 4/30/2010, the Florida Legislature passed SB 2176. USA SCN added an amendment to SB 2176, which clarified that Medicare Supplement insurers are not prohibited from granting a premium credit to insureds for using an in-network inpatient facility. It further clarified that a Medicare Supplement insurer is not prohibited from entering into an agreement through a network with inpatient facilities that agree to waive the Medicare Part A deductible in whole or in part. In addition, in accordance with the provisions of SB 2176, an insurer is not required to file a copy of the network agreement with, and such network agreements are not subject to the approval of, the Office of Insurance Regulation.
